The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, Warman Ogoriba, said President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to national development. He believes Tinubu deserves a second term despite some criticisms.

Ogoriba is confident in Tinubu’s chances for re-election. He insists that the President's administration has done well since taking office.

Speaking in Yenagoa on Tuesday, he said that criticism is normal in democracy. He added that it should not distract the government from its work.

He said, “We expect criticism in politics, and we welcome constructive criticism. We are not worried about calls for the President’s resignation. We are focused on development projects and ensuring that Nigerians continue to benefit from government policies. The same thing applies at the national level. We are doing very well. Even the President of the United States faces calls to resign. The Prime Minister of Britain resigned recently. These things are normal in politics.

“If someone does not like you and you are in the office, that person can ask you to resign. We are not worried about people calling for his resignation. We are focused on delivering development projects, and Nigerians can see what is being done.

“We are confident of winning the next elections and continuing for another four years, God willing. Where he has done well, people should say so. Where he has not done well, people should point it out.”

Ogoriba said Nigerians are starting to feel the effects of the President’s policies. He believes this will lead to support at the polls.

“But overall, the President has done very well, and we believe Nigerians will vote massively for him. It is normal for opposition parties to target our members because we are the biggest party in the state. As for this so-called growing opposition, I have not seen it. We do not discuss political parties in the APC; we discuss achievements. We are more strategic in mobilising votes for our party.

“When campaigns begin, and elections come, the results will speak for themselves. I think the President has done very well. In terms of infrastructure and road networks, how many presidents in Nigeria have undertaken a coastal road project of this magnitude? On the issue of the rising cost of living, it is an economic matter. While prices are increasing, people also have more money in their pockets. Salaries are increasing. When you say prices are rising, you should also consider the fact that more houses are being built, which means people have more money to invest.

“Look at the savings from subsidy removal and the increased allocations going to states. The President has challenged governors to explain how they are using the additional funds. As an APC member and chairman of the party, I would say President Tinubu has performed above 90 per cent. You also have the right to assess him in the way you consider appropriate, but this is my assessment,” he said.

He also dismissed calls for Tinubu’s resignation. He called such demands a normal part of political competition in democracies.

According to him, political leaders worldwide often face pressure from opponents. But what matters most is their ability to deliver development and improve the lives of citizens.

“We are not worried about calls for resignation. We are focused on development projects and ensuring that Nigerians continue to benefit from government policies,” he said.
