Benin Electric Distribution Company has confirmed that one of its technical staff was injured during an electrical incident. This happened while he was working on an 11kV feeder in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The company’s Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Mrs Evelyn Gbiwen, shared this information in a statement on Tuesday from Benin.
She said the incident took place around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday in the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area of Ado-Ekiti.
According to the statement, the injured worker is Mr Akinyemi Bamidele, a technical linesman. He got burns on his arm and other parts of his body after an electric shock while performing a task on the 11kV Basiri Feeder after scheduled maintenance.
Bamidele was taken to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti for treatment. Gbiwen mentioned that he is stable and responding well to medical care.
“BEDC Electricity Plc is committed to the safety and well-being of its employees. We are providing the necessary support to the injured staff member during this time,” she said.
Gbiwen also stated that the company has started an investigation into what led to the incident. She said that proper measures will be taken based on the findings from the investigation.
