Children honour late Ogun politician with cleanup event at Lusada Market

The children of late Ogun State politician Aina Taiwo shared why they chose community service for his remembrance instead of a traditional memorial.

They teamed up with DLAP Academy to host an environmental cleanup and flash mob at Lusada Market in Igbesa, Ogun State. This made the occasion more about the community.

The children said their father’s dedication to grassroots development inspired their choice. They explained, "Our father believed that leadership is measured by service to others. We are honoring him by doing something that benefits the community he loved. His legacy is not only in our memories but in every positive action inspired by his life."

Volunteers, youth leaders, traders, and residents joined the exercise to clean parts of the market and raise awareness about environmental sanitation.

The program also included a flash mob by DLAP Academy and BADAGRY BOIZ. They performed dances and creative acts to engage the public and promote civic responsibility.

Aina Taiwo, who started his journey in Igbesa, was active in politics and served as a councillor. Beyond politics, he was involved in business and supported traders and families in the area.

Associates remembered him as a grassroots politician who kept close ties with ordinary residents. He helped people through mentorship and personal assistance.

The family said the community outreach aimed to reflect this part of his life and give young people a chance to participate in something that benefits their environment.

DLAP Academy, a youth-led group focused on leadership, community service, and creative advocacy, said this partnership showed how young people can help their communities.

They noted that combining cleanup with creative performances offered a way to educate locals while making civic participation fun.

Some community members praised the initiative, calling it a practical way to honor a man known for his grassroots efforts.
