The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, met with Dunoma Umar Ahmed, the permanent secretary of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday. They discussed ways to strengthen diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria.
During the meeting, Ambassador Yu said that for the past 55 years, since they established diplomatic ties, China and Nigeria have led in China-Africa relations.
He added that in recent times, guided by President Xi Jinping and President Bola Tinubu, the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has moved into a new phase of quality growth.
China and Nigeria have kept close communication. They have worked together to implement agreements made by both leaders and the outcomes of the 2024 FOCAC Beijing Summit. This effort aims to ensure that more cooperation benefits people in both countries.
The ambassador announced that to support Nigeria’s development and economic growth, China will give RMB 200 million in grant assistance. This money will help carry out projects agreed upon by both governments.
Dr Ahmed expressed gratitude to China for its support of Nigeria’s economic and social development. He said the grant shows China's responsibility as a major country and reflects the strong friendship between Nigeria and China.
He promised that Nigeria would use the grant effectively. Nigeria will work with China to carry out their agreements on cooperation and further strengthen Nigeria-China friendship. This will bring more benefits to the people in both nations.
