A security guard known as Stanley was killed in a suspected cult attack in Sangotedo, Lagos on Friday.
PUNCH Metro learned on Monday that armed men entered Royale Estate between 10pm and 11pm, firing their guns wildly.
A source who did not want to be named due to safety concerns told PUNCH Metro that Stanley was shot more than three times and then shot in the head.
“They just stormed the estate and started shooting. Stanley, the security man on duty, was shot several times, and in the head too, before they shot in the air and fled the area,” the source said.
The attack was also reported on the social media platform NaijaConfra. Users shared videos and posts claiming the culprits were suspected cult members.
On Monday, Abimbola Adebisi, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the attack. She said that Stanley was shot by two people on a motorcycle.
“The incident occurred. He was shot by two unknown individuals on a motorcycle. The command has launched an investigation into the incident. No suspect yet,” she said.
This incident follows the reported killing of another security guard named Godwin in the Abule Ijesha area of Yaba, Lagos State just weeks ago.
PUNCH Metro had reported that the attackers arrived in a vehicle, shot Godwin near his duty post, and even attacked him with an axe. Three other people were also said to have been injured in that incident.
