Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, known as Davido, has said that soldiers are trying to stop him from entering Osun State on Saturday. This is happening as the state prepares for its governorship election.
In a post on his verified X account on Saturday morning, Davido stated, “I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”
This announcement comes just hours after the Nigeria Police Force declared a restriction of movement across Osun State. This restriction will last from 12:00 midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The restriction is part of security plans for the election. The plans include deploying thousands of police officers and other security personnel.
Davido, who is the nephew of the current Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively campaigning for his uncle’s re-election under the Accord Party. The governor is seeking another term against competitors like Bola Oyebamiji from the All Progressives Congress and others in this off-cycle election.
Davido’s post quickly attracted attention online, with mixed reactions from users. Some pointed out that the usual election-day movement restrictions might explain any checks by security forces. Others worried about possible targeted restrictions against the well-known supporter of the incumbent.
Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, responded to Davido’s post, calling it “dramatic.” He reminded everyone that security agencies had already announced movement restrictions throughout the state to ensure a peaceful election.
“You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6 pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere not peculiar to Osun.
“So the right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election,” Ahmad said.
