The Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Dennis Guwor, has called on lawmakers to work together and focus on good governance as the House kicked off its Fourth Session.

Speaking at Tuesday’s plenary, Mr Guwor said members should stay dedicated to their constitutional duties and meet the needs of the people.

He thanked God for keeping lawmakers safe during the break and bringing them back to their jobs.

Mr Guwor mentioned that this new session is a chance for the assembly to enhance its role in promoting peace, development, and prosperity in Delta.

"As we begin this Fourth Session, I urge all Honourable Members to remain steadfast, focused, and dedicated to the discharge of our constitutional duties.

The expectations of our people remain high, and it is our collective responsibility to continue enacting laws and undertaking legislative actions that will promote peace, prosperity, and good governance across Delta," he said.

Mr Guwor insisted that the assembly should build on what it has achieved and chase ideas that will truly benefit the people in the state.

He pointed out that better teamwork between the legislature, executive, and judiciary is key to making real progress.

"The Fourth Session presents another opportunity for us to consolidate on our achievements, strengthen our partnership with other arms of government, and pursue legislative initiatives that will positively impact the lives of our people," he said.

The speaker expressed his belief that the unity and teamwork that have been part of the House would continue to bring good results in legislation.

He added that the commitment of members over the years has played a big part in the assembly’s successes and should continue through this session.

Mr Guwor welcomed lawmakers back from their break and wished them a productive, peaceful, and successful Fourth Session.

He also acknowledged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his wife for attending the assembly’s third anniversary thanksgiving service, calling their presence a show of support for the legislature and its role in governance.

The speaker further thanked former governors, senior government officials, traditional leaders, religious leaders, security chiefs, and other important guests who came to the event.

He said the thanksgiving service was a chance for lawmakers to think about what the assembly has accomplished over the past three years.

He added that the occasion helped renew members’ commitment to good legislation, effective oversight, and meaningful representation.
