A social media star, Abiodun Ademola, known as DJ Chicken, appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday. He is facing charges for allegedly threatening to kill Seyi Tinubu.
The 37-year-old lives in Tafodi Estate, Royal Park, Lekki, Lagos. He faces three charges: threat to life, offensive online publication, and conduct likely to breach the peace.
The prosecution, led by SP Okunuga, who is the Officer-in-Charge at the Legal Command Headquarters in Ikeja, claims the offences happened on 5 July around 9:00 a.m. in Lekki, Lagos.
According to the charges, DJ Chicken posted a video on his Facebook and Instagram accounts, @djchicken, where he threatened to kill Seyi Tinubu.
The prosecution says the message was meant for Seyi Tinubu. They claim he wanted to instil fear with the video shared on social media.
Police also said Mr Ademola put out a highly offensive and threatening video on Instagram. They allege this was meant to cause alarm, which goes against the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015.
The prosecution further stated that the defendant threatened to kill Seyi Tinubu if President Bola Tinubu tried to contest or won the 2027 presidential election.
They argued that the defendant's actions could lead to a public disturbance and threaten public order.
The prosecution said these actions broke Sections 232 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. They added that the online post also violated Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
When the charges were read out, Mr Ademola pleaded not guilty to them in front of Magistrate M.F. Onamusi.
The magistrate granted him bail for ₦1 million with two sureties who must also put up the same amount. One surety must be a blood relative with the same surname as the defendant. The other must be a respected community leader or clergyman.
The court instructed both sureties to show proof of three years of tax payments and LASTRA verification before the bail conditions can be finalised.
The magistrate then adjourned the case until 3 August for further hearing.
