The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has set free activists Randy Peter and Mama Pee after they went to the agency's office in Abuja.

The activists were released just after midnight on Wednesday. They had spent several hours being questioned and were told to come back to the EFCC office on Thursday. Their colleague, Justice Cracks, shared this information.

Justice Crack, who was with them at the EFCC headquarters, posted about it on X on Wednesday. "My dear brother, @Peter4Nigeria, and my sister, @MamaPee__ were invited by the @officialEFCC. I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. It was a very long day," he said.

He mentioned that the activists left the EFCC office after about 11 hours of questioning. "They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day, 16th July 2026. For now, everything is fine," he added.

Justice Cracks also posted a video from the car park of the EFCC while waiting for the activists.

Earlier on Wednesday, many people were worried about the duo's safety after Esther Umoh, the photographer for National Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign, said they had not left the EFCC office hours after their arrival.

"@MamaPee__ and @Peter4Nigeria were invited by the EFCC in Abuja, and as respectful citizens, they honored the invitation today. But as I type this, they are yet to be released by the commission," Umoh wrote on X.

The long questioning raised fears on social media that the activists might have been arrested.

But Justice Crack later confirmed that both activists had been released and would return to the EFCC office on Thursday as the commission instructed.

The EFCC has not said publicly why they invited the activists.
