Egypt and Saudi Arabia are calling for calm in the Strait of Hormuz. They want to protect freedom of navigation based on international law.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry made this known in a statement. This follows new attacks between Iran and the United States.
The statement came after a phone call between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal Al Saud.
Both ministers highlighted the need to keep international shipping safe and secure. They warned that any disruption to maritime traffic could harm the global economy and energy security.
They talked about the rising tensions in the region. They condemned Iran for its attacks on Gulf Arab countries and Jordan. They also called for an immediate stop to all escalating actions.
Regional Cooperation
The ministers shared views on regional efforts to ease tensions. They discussed the role of the regional quartet, which includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan.
In the past week, the United States has carried out several strikes on Iran. This is in response to Iran's attacks on ships using a US-backed Omani route in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has retaliated by targeting US military bases in nearby countries.
