Election Violence Breaks Out in Ejigbo LGA, Osun State

Violence broke out at a polling unit in Ejigbo LGA, Osun State, disrupting the voting process during Saturday's governorship election.

The trouble started when some voters found materials belonging to the All Progressive Congress (APC) that seemed to be connected to vote buying.

A young resident, who did not want to be named, told Channels TV that he and a few others decided to take the materials, refusing to let the wrongdoing continue. But this choice led to a fight that disturbed the electoral process.

Things got worse when people who were linked to the materials showed up and tried to take the young men away.

Tension rose at the polling unit, causing scared residents and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials to run for safety.

Videos from the area showed voters running in different directions.

Motorcycles and vehicles rushed through the place as people, afraid for their safety, tried to escape the violence.

As of the time of writing this report, no injuries had been reported.

Earlier, some voters in the local government area raised concerns about a vote buying incident involving a political party.

The Cable reported that party agents also questioned the number of ballot papers that were given to a polling unit in Ejigbo.

This raised calls for the ballot papers to be counted as residents demanded transparency.

One agent reportedly asked, "You told us you brought 584 ballot papers, but after counting, it was not up to 584. How come?"
