The Enugu State Police Command confirmed on Tuesday that a police inspector, Dr Ikechukwu Obodo, died in a hit-and-run accident. This tragic event happened while he was walking in the state.

Dr Obodo held a Doctor of Philosophy degree and came from the Nkpologu community in Enugu State. At the time of his death, he worked in the Operations Department at the State Police Command Headquarters.

SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer, released an official statement about the incident in Enugu. He said it was important to clarify the situation after some misleading reports on social media claimed that the officer was hit by a police convoy.

Ndukwe did not mention the exact time or place where the accident took place. He assured everyone that the police were actively looking into the incident.

He also promised that more information would be shared as the investigation continued. Ndukwe expressed sadness over the loss of the officer and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into how it happened.

He said, "Losing a police officer or any other person in such circumstances is deeply disheartening and must be thoroughly investigated. However, there is no evidence establishing that a police convoy was involved in the fatal hit-and-run motor-pedestrian accident at this time."

Reports say that the police have started a search for the driver who fled the scene. The body of the late officer has been taken to a mortuary.
