The Enugu State Government has warned everyone, including residents, businesses, and advertisers, not to vandalise or damage bus shelters and other transport facilities in the state without permission.
The State Commissioner for Transport, Obi Ozor, gave this warning in a statement shared in Enugu by the ministry’s spokesman, Odumegwu Chinwendu. The statement was available to reporters on Thursday.
Ozor said the new bus shelters and transport facilities are public assets. These were built with a lot of government money to create a cleaner, safer, and more organised transport system.
He mentioned that the ministry has noticed a worrying trend. Many posters, stickers, banners, and handbills are being put on bus shelters and other public transport structures without approval.
According to him, these actions are against the law and will not be accepted anymore.
The commissioner ordered that no one should post posters, stickers, banners, advertisements, or handbills on any bus shelter or transport facility without getting clear approval from the ministry.
He warned that anyone found defacing, damaging, or misusing public transport facilities would face serious consequences.
He explained that the penalties would include heavy fines and possible legal action.
Ozor added that enforcement teams have been assigned to watch over public transport structures in the state. They will ensure that everyone follows this new rule.
He said this rule is part of a larger campaign by the government. The goal is to encourage people to be more responsible, keep the environment clean, and respect public facilities.
The commissioner pointed out that vandalising public infrastructure raises maintenance and cleaning costs. It also creates visual chaos, damages the city's look, and goes against the government’s goal for a modern and well-organised Enugu.
He urged residents and others involved to help protect and properly use public assets for everyone's benefit.
“Together, let us keep Enugu clean, organised, and beautiful,” Ozor said.
