ESUT suspends law students for cheating on exams

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has suspended three law students for two academic years due to examination malpractice.

The suspension started on 25 June 2026 and will last until 24 June 2028.

This was revealed in memos sent to the students by the university’s Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu, on Monday in Enugu. Reporters received these memos.

The three students affected are Isong Ugwu, registration No. ESUT/2023030212973; Gad Nwosu, registration No. ESUT/2022030203441; and Roseline Nnamani, registration No. ESUT/2024030219772.

Mr Ugwu mentioned that the Vice-Chancellor, Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, approved the Senate Examinations Malpractice Committee’s recommendations.

The registrar instructed the students to return any university property they have to their Heads of Department and leave the campus immediately.

He also said the sponsors of the students and the National Universities Commission have been notified about this issue.

The students must apply for readmission after their suspension ends in June 2028.

In another development, a different law student, Goodluck Iwuamadi, registration No. ESUT/2025030227502, was cleared of cheating allegations.

Mr Ugwu explained that the decision to clear Mr Iwuamadi followed the recommendation of the Senate Examinations Malpractice Committee.
