A man named Mr Paul has been handed over to the Ondo State Police for allegedly hurting his 10-year-old daughter because she wet the bed.

The man reportedly pressed a hot iron on the girl's private part in Upemen Community, located in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Dr Seun Osamaye, the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, shared this information on Tuesday after she visited the girl at the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, where she is getting treatment.

The commissioner said the state government acted quickly after receiving the report. She noted that the father has been arrested and is now with the police in Owo Division for prosecution.

Osamaye stated, "The Ondo State Government under Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa is dedicated to protecting children. The girl, who was hurt by her father pressing a hot iron on her private part for bed-wetting, will need a second surgery involving skin grafting at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.

"She suffered serious injuries from this act, and her father has been arrested and is now with the police for prosecution."

The commissioner led a team from her ministry to the hospital to check on the child's recovery after her first surgery. She said the state government got involved to ensure that the girl received proper medical care and support.

She praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his quick action and ongoing concern for the child's welfare. She emphasized that the current government will keep focusing on the safety and wellbeing of children in the state.

During the visit, Dr Adeyinka Aiyeyemi, the Medical Director of FMC Owo, praised the state government for creating a good environment for healthcare workers to do their jobs well.

He also suggested that the girl’s parents should receive therapy. He said they need psychological support to deal with what happened.

He informed the commissioner that the girl will need another skin-grafting operation as part of her ongoing treatment and recovery process.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and the father's arrest. He mentioned that an investigation is now underway.

"After we received the information, detectives from 'A' Division in Owo quickly went to the scene, arrested the suspect without delay, and took him into custody.

"The case is being sent to the gender unit for a detailed investigation and further necessary action according to the right procedures."
