The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau says it will release its final report on the road accident involving former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua in 30 to 60 days. This was reported by Saturday PUNCH.
Alex Badeh Jr., the Director-General of the NSIB, shared this information on Friday during a virtual meeting with transport journalists. He mentioned that the bureau has finished its investigation and sent its findings to the necessary stakeholders for their comments, as required by accident investigation laws.
Badeh explained that the NSIB must share draft reports with the right stakeholders before making a final report public.
“The report on Anthony Joshua’s accident should be out to the public in the next 30 to 60 days. We have sent our findings to the appropriate quarters as required by the law. It’s after this that we can then release it to the public,” Badeh said.
He also pointed out that the bureau did not get as much help as it expected from the Nigeria Police during the investigation, even though some assistance was given.
“On the police, we didn’t receive enough cooperation from them, but we received some. We would have loved to receive more from them and other necessary agencies,” he stated.
Badeh noted that the police claim they have the authority to investigate road traffic accidents. This has caused disagreements between the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps over the years. He emphasized that the NSIB’s approach is different from criminal investigations. Their goal is to prevent future accidents, not to assign blame.
He added that the bureau is working to strengthen its relationship with law enforcement and other agencies. The appointment of Nuhu Ribadu, a former police officer, as National Security Adviser has opened up better communication between agencies.
The accident happened on December 29, 2025, in Makun area of Ogun State along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. It resulted in the deaths of two members of Joshua’s team, Sina Ghami and Kevin “Latif” Ayodele, while Joshua himself suffered minor injuries.
Badeh also mentioned that the bureau is still waiting for funding from some transport sector agencies. This includes three percent from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and six percent from the Nigerian Railway Corporation. Meanwhile, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has been meeting its financial commitments.
Last month, Joshua returned to the boxing ring. He won against Kristian Prenga by a second-round knockout, despite being knocked down twice during the fight. He dedicated this victory to the memory of Ghami and Ayodele.
