A fire broke out at a Polaris Bank branch on Broad Street, Lagos Island, on Thursday.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service quickly put out the fire that started on the third floor of the bank building. The building is also a parking facility.

This incident took place around 11:33 a.m. on Thursday. A parked saloon car on the third floor caught fire. The building has 17 stories in total.

Margaret Adeseye, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu fire stations responded immediately after the alert.

"The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully extinguished a fire outbreak that occurred on the 3rd floor of the Polaris Bank Building, located at 61/65 Broad Street, Lagos Island."

She added, "The only damage recorded was to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings. No casualties or injuries were reported."

As of now, officials have not shared what caused the fire.

PUNCH Online reports that videos on social media showed thick smoke rising from the building. Residents and business owners gathered nearby to watch.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, worked hard to control the fire. They aimed to stop it from spreading to other buildings in the area.
