Fire destroys two buildings in Kano

The Kano State Fire Service on Monday managed to control two different fire outbreaks. One was at an Access Bank branch in Dawanau, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, and the other at a residential building in Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, Kumbotso Local Government Area.

This information was shared in a statement on Tuesday by ACFO Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service.

The fires happened around 1:17 pm and 6:19 pm. The first fire was reported by a caller named Michael, who informed the agency about the blaze at the Access Bank branch in Dawanau.

"Firefighters from the Dawanau Fire Station quickly responded to the emergency call and reached the location to find a one-storey building, about 100 by 80 feet, being used as a bank.

The fire completely engulfed a Mikano generator, while an electrical transformer was slightly damaged," the statement revealed.

The firefighters managed to control the fire and stopped it from spreading to other areas of the bank building.

"The responding firefighters successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the bank building," the statement continued.

The cause of this fire is still being looked into.

The second fire broke out at around 6:19 pm in Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, Kumbotso Local Government Area. The Emergency Call Centre received a distress call from Ahmad Mainama, which led firefighters from the Sharada Industrial Area Fire Station to rush to the scene.

When they arrived, they found a ground-floor residential building, about 40 by 30 feet, on fire. The fire affected two bedrooms, a parlour, and a kitchen.

The firefighters brought the situation under control with one jet from Commando 3, Sharada Fire Truck, and two additional jets from nearby factories.

"The situation was successfully brought under control through the coordinated efforts of our men and support from nearby factories," the statement added.

The cause of the second fire is also under investigation.

After these incidents, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged people to stay alert and take steps to prevent fire outbreaks.

Anas specifically recommended that homes should have functional fire extinguishers and that basic fire-safety measures should always be followed.

"We appeal to members of the public to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to reduce the incidence of fire outbreaks," the director stated.

He also said, "Every household should have a functional fire extinguisher and ensure that appropriate fire-safety measures are observed at all times."

The service called on residents to report fire incidents immediately so firefighters can respond quickly and help prevent the loss of lives and property.
