Fire destroys two flats in Gombe, causes N80m loss

Property worth about N80 million was lost when fire burned two residential flats at Yalenguruza Quarters, opposite MacConnels Hotel in Gombe State.

The Federal Fire Service in Gombe State shared this information in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, ASF MB Mu’azu, on Friday.

The statement said, “the command received a distress call about the incident at 3:03pm and mobilised its FFS 215 Multipurpose Water Tender from the ATM Fire Station five minutes later.”

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 3:15pm. They discovered that the fire affected two separate residential flats with several rooms.

The statement mentioned, “the crew immediately commenced firefighting operations and eventually extinguished the blaze using a medium jet supplied from the water tender.”

Thanks to the quick action of the firefighters, they stopped the fire from spreading and saved property valued at about N150 million.

The statement added, “The Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, has successfully contained a fire outbreak involving two residential flats at Yalenguruza Quarters, opposite MacConnels Hotel, Gombe State.”

Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the incident.

The operation was led by ASF I. Gambo Mohammed, with ASFII Mu’azu Tagwai as the driver, along with other firefighters.

Gombe State Fire Service personnel and officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Gona Division, also helped with the emergency response.

Once the fire was completely put out, firefighters checked the affected area. They confirmed there was no further fire or immediate danger.

The fire service reported that its personnel and equipment returned to the station around 5:38pm.

The command urged residents to stay alert and follow basic fire safety rules, especially in homes.

It also encouraged the public to quickly report any fire incidents to the nearest fire station. This will help emergency responders act fast and reduce the loss of lives and property.
