A fire started on Friday at the Bono Energy Terminal in the Coconut area of Olodi Apapa, Lagos. This led to an emergency response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS).
The fire broke out at the terminal along the Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway. Authorities have not yet figured out what caused the fire.
The LSFRS reported that firefighters are on the ground trying to control the flames and stop them from spreading to nearby buildings.
In a short statement on Friday, the agency’s spokesperson, Shakiru Amodu, said emergency responders were sent to handle the situation.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently curbing a fire explosion at Bono Energy Terminal on Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway, by Coconut, Olodi Apapa, Lagos. Update to follow,” Mr Amodu said.
So far, there has been no word on injuries or how much damage the fire has caused.
This incident has raised alarms because Apapa houses many oil storage facilities and other important industrial sites. Quick emergency response is crucial whenever there is a fire in the area.
Fires at oil storage sites can pose serious risks to lives, property, and the environment, especially in busy industrial areas like Apapa. Quickly putting out the fire is important to avoid further explosions and disruptions in fuel supply.
