Five hurt as truck crashes into two buses in Lagos

Five passengers were badly hurt when a 40-foot HOWO truck crashed into two commercial buses at Berger Bus Stop, heading towards Kara Bridge, in the Ojodu area of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority shared details about the accident. They said the crash involved an interstate Mazda bus and a Toyota Hiace bus, both carrying passengers.

The agency explained that the truck was leaving Lagos when it hit the two buses, causing injuries to several people inside.

LASTMA operatives near the Ojodu-Berger area quickly responded and rescued five seriously injured passengers, which included three women and two men, one of whom was the driver.

The victims were taken to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre at the Toll Gate for urgent care. Security officers from Isheri Police Station also helped with the rescue operation.

The crash created heavy traffic along the area, with long queues of vehicles stretching back to Otedola Bridge.

LASTMA staff later cleared the vehicles involved, including the truck, from the road. This was to avoid more accidents and to help traffic flow again.

The agency said they handed the vehicles over to the police. The police will investigate what happened and take any necessary legal steps.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his sympathy for the injured passengers and wished them a quick recovery.

He talked about the need for responsible driving and following road safety rules. He also highlighted the importance of keeping heavy-duty vehicles in good condition.

Bakare-Oki warned that mechanical problems, careless driving, or losing control of a vehicle can lead to serious accidents, especially on busy roads.

He urged drivers of big trucks and heavy vehicles to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, be careful, and stay alert while driving on major roads.

The agency also called on all drivers to follow traffic instructions from LASTMA officials. This will help keep the roads safe and reduce preventable accidents.

This incident raises new worries about road safety in Lagos State.
