Four Almajiris, or Qur'anic school pupils, have died in Kano after eating food that may have been contaminated.

Alaramma Sani Musa Nuhu, the National Chairman of the Tsangaya Media Network, confirmed this sad news in a statement on Monday.

The affected students were from Malam Iliyasu Mai Tsangaya in Kadage Sharifai, located in Ungoggo Local Government Area of Kano State.

The statement noted that the students were taken to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical help after showing signs of food poisoning.

"The students, however, reportedly died at the hospital on Sunday night, August 16th, 2026," the statement said.

Details about the type of food they ate or what caused the poisoning were not shared, making it hard to understand what really happened.

After getting the necessary approvals from the District Head (Dagaci) and the Divisional Police Officer, the remains of the deceased were buried.

As of now, the police have not released an official statement regarding this tragic incident.
