The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, appeared before investigators on Monday. They are looking into the fake agency scandal affecting the federal government.
Gbajabiamila’s lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed that his client showed up for questioning. He said, “In full cooperation with the ICPC acting as directed by the President of Nigeria, I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, responded to the invitation of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and appeared at about 15:00hrs on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the ‘PFIPC’ fake agency, among others.”
Ogunye added, “My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly, and has returned to his duty post.”
The news outlet PREMIUM TIMES reported that President Bola Tinubu asked the ICPC to investigate the scandal. This came after Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claimed to be the Director-General of the fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), said he paid N400 million in bribes to someone he thought was Gbajabiamila. He wanted an appointment letter for his office.
Adeyemi’s agency was not set up by any law or presidential order. Yet, it managed to get an office in the federal secretariat, secure budget money, open accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria, and hire public workers.
Gbajabiamila has denied taking any bribe from Adeyemi. He stated that he was the one who reported Adeyemi and his activities to the police.
