Geregu Power Plc has named Mohammed Jaoji as its acting Chief Executive Officer. His appointment takes effect from 17 August and needs approval from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The company shared this news in a regulatory filing signed by its Company Secretary, Gbeminiyi Shoda from StructureHQ Limited, on Monday.

Mr Jaoji steps in after Sean Manley's term as Interim Chief Executive Officer ended on 14 May. The board thanked Mr Manley for his service and contributions during his time in the role. They also said they believe Mr Jaoji will improve the company’s governance.

"The Board is confident that the appointment will strengthen the governance structure and strategic direction of the Company pending the appointment of a substantive Chief Executive Officer," the company said.

Mr Jaoji holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is also a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He has over 30 years of experience in Nigeria’s power sector.

His career includes technical and leadership roles at the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and Geregu Power Plc. He worked as Head of Maintenance Planning and Performance at Geregu Power from 2007 to 2019.

Later, he served as Technical Assistant to the Minister of Power from 2019 to 2023. He then returned to Geregu Power.
