Gunmen have released two out of three siblings who were taken on Saturday morning. They were transporting their mother's body from Abuja to Benue State for burial.

The three siblings were reportedly kidnapped at about 4 a.m. on Saturday. They were on their way to Iklenyi community in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.

The kidnappers took them between Omutele and Ankpechi along the Ogobia-Otukpo Road in Oglewu District of Ohimini Local Government Area.

A local source named Elijah told our reporter on Sunday that the kidnappers let two of the siblings go on Saturday night but are still holding one.

Elijah said, “The kidnappers released two siblings and dumped the corpse last night (Saturday night) to allow them to bury their mother. But one of them is still being held.”

Gabriel Adole, the Chairman of Ohimini LGA, confirmed that the kidnappers did indeed dump the corpse. He added that security forces have been sent to the area to rescue the one sibling still captive.

“The corpse had already been taken to Okpokwu for burial. It was one of them that is still with the kidnappers. They are yet to release him.

“As we speak (Sunday evening), the security operatives, conventional policemen, soldiers and other security agents, are still in the bush trying to rescue the victim,” Adole said.

In the meantime, Udeme Edet, the spokesperson for the state police command, said she has not received any report from the Divisional Police Officer of Ohimini LGA about the kidnapping.
