Gunmen have attacked Ghandi community in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State. They killed at least eight farmers and injured five others with gunfire.

The attack happened on Sunday afternoon, causing panic among residents. The assailants reportedly entered the community around 3:00 p.m.

DSP Ahmed Rufai, the spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed the incident during a phone call with our reporter.

Rufai said the police are aware of the attack and are gathering more details. He stated, "Yes, we are aware of the attack, 8 farmers were killed while another five were injured. We will make it public once we are done with the information being gathered on it."

A local source, who asked to remain anonymous, said the gunmen started firing at the farmers in the community.

The source explained, "The bandits came around 3:00 p.m. and started shooting at people. No fewer than eight farmers were killed, while at least five others sustained gunshot injuries."

The source also claimed that the attack was revenge for the killing of some bandit members by security forces during recent operations in the area.

He added, "We believe this was a retaliatory attack because some members of the group were killed by security personnel in the last few days."

This recent attack has raised fears among residents of Ghandi and nearby communities. Farmers especially are worried as armed groups continue to threaten their safety in parts of the state.
