Gunmen kill four local security men in Plateau village

Four local security men have been killed in an attack on Shurum, a village in the Dorowa Babuje District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State.

The attack happened around 11:56 p.m. on Friday, as reported by residents.

A community member, Bulus Bature, said the security men were on duty when the gunmen came.

“They were watching over our community when the gunmen struck and killed them,” Mr Bature said.

He called the killings painful, explaining that these men had chosen to protect their community from attacks.

Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), confirmed the incident.

Mr Tengwong said the association got reports about the attack and confirmed that four people were killed.

He condemned the killings and urged security agencies to investigate and catch those responsible.

He also asked the government and security agencies to improve safety in the affected areas, saying residents should not have to live in fear while those protecting them are targeted.

Attempts to reach the police for confirmation were unsuccessful at the time of this report.

These latest killings add to the series of attacks reported in Plateau State, where communities have been facing ongoing violence.
