Suspected gunmen killed a driver and two passengers on Marnona-Isa Road in Sokoto. The attack has heightened fears about road safety in the state.

Suspected gunmen have shot and killed a driver and two passengers on a vehicle along the Marnona-Isa Road in Sokoto State.
According to PUNCH Metro, the attack happened on Wednesday evening at Kunawa village in Goronyo Local Government Area. This was confirmed by the Sokoto State Police Command.
While speaking to our correspondent on Thursday, the police spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the attack resulted in three deaths. Rufai stated, “A driver and two others were killed by bandits at Kunawa village, Goronyo Local Government Area, along the Marnona-Isa Road.”
The victims were said to be travelling from Sokoto city to Isa Local Government Area when the gunmen blocked their path and opened fire on them. Reports that are not confirmed suggest that some of the passengers might have been part of the 3,000 people recruited by the Sokoto State Government for further screening and document collection.
It is still unclear if any of the deceased were part of this group. The police spokesperson did not give extra details about how the attack happened or the names of those who died when this report was filed.

This incident has raised fresh worries about the safety of drivers and passengers on the roads in Sokoto State. This concern grows especially with the ongoing security problems in different areas of the state.
Residents are still scared of the activities of armed bandits, who have been known to attack travellers and communities across Sokoto. The recent attack has also sparked questions about how safe it is for people to travel for official purposes, like recruitment exercises.
More information about what happened and what security measures will be taken to stop future attacks is still awaited from the police.
