Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, announced on Saturday that a woman and her son, who were kidnapped in Igbope, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, have been rescued in Kwara State.

Igboho, who leads the Iru Ekun Security Network, said his group worked with the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force. They had a fierce gun battle with the kidnappers early Saturday morning, which led to the safe return of the victims, Adijat Kubura Aliqlas and Abdulmalik.

A statement from Igboho’s media office, shared with The PUNCH in Ibadan, said the operation lasted about three days. It was successful due to careful intelligence gathering and tracking. The statement added that the kidnappers were tricked into coming for ransom.

According to the statement, the kidnappers ran away with gunshot wounds and left the victims behind in the forest.

The statement quoted Igboho saying, “My team and I, along with ASP Amos Ajegoke and some policemen, have been in the forest for days tracking the movement of the hoodlums. On July 2, we found out they were at Bode Sadu before Jebba. We stayed there until Friday night.

“At about 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, they came to collect the ransom as planned. We attacked them in the forest, and there was a lot of gunfire. We then chased them through the forest. They ran away, and later we discovered that they had left Adijat Kubura and Abdulmalik behind.

“We heard them calling for help and were able to find them and rescue them. They are now at Igboho General Hospital getting medical care.

“It is important to mention that this operation succeeded thanks to the support from the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu. He kept in touch with the Commissioners of Police in Kwara and Niger states, which made our tough job easier after many days and nights in the forest,” the statement continued.

Igboho also reaffirmed his commitment to protecting lives and property. He assured the people of Oke-Ogun and Oyo State that he will keep working towards peace and security.

He urged Nigerians to stay calm and support genuine security efforts against crime. Igboho also advised against spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.
