Social commentator Isaac Fayose has praised the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, for checking police checkpoints and removing illegal roadblocks in the state.

In a video shared on X on Tuesday, Fayose commended the police chief’s efforts. He encouraged other police commissioners in Nigeria to follow this example.

“I wish other commissioners of police across the country would do the same. The Rivers State Commissioner of Police has been actively carrying out inspection tours of checkpoints and highways. This is commendable,” he said.

Fayose also called for police officers to be retrained. He urged senior officers to monitor their staff more closely on the roads.

The video has sparked reactions on X, with many users showing support for the commissioner’s actions.

A user on X, identified as #CallmeOla, commented, “Most of them on blocks are to extort money from people. Good the commissioner is doing a great work. He should have disguised without wearing uniform to catch one or two. All these police need to be retrained.”

Another user, #EDO BLOOD, said, “This man has been doing this since he became a commissioner of police in Rivers State. I encountered them early this year.”

#Dorren06 also wrote, “I love what the Rivers Commissioner of Police did. Kudos to him. Just like Mr. Isaac said, other Police commands should help Nigerians and do what the Rivers Police Commissioner did.”

PUNCH Online reported on Tuesday that Adepoju led a statewide check of police checkpoints. He ordered the immediate removal of unauthorized roadblocks on highways. This was part of the effort to follow the Inspector-General of Police’s directives against extortion, illegal roadblocks, and officer misconduct.

During this exercise, the commissioner stated that officers should perform stop-and-search operations without blocking traffic. He added that illegal roadblocks found during the inspection were taken down right away.
