A former senator from Ogun Central and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, has explained why she left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). She said her move was motivated by her concern for the people of Ogun Central and her wish to serve them better.
Obasanjo-Bello made this statement during a visit by members of the Liberty Group to her home at Obasanjo Hilltop in Abeokuta. She believes the PDP’s focus on the people matches her commitment to humanitarian work.
This information was shared in a statement to PUNCH Online on Sunday.
“I like helping people, and PDP as a party has always been a people-centred party, which further helps me to spread my philanthropic gesture to my constituents,” she said.
She mentioned that her support from various political groups, especially the Liberty Group, shows her dedication to service and her philanthropic activities. She has previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health and later as senator for Ogun Central.
Obasanjo-Bello promised to unite the different support groups under the PDP banner.
“I promise to integrate all the groups into our platform as well as assure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of my total support in the coming general election,” she said.
She pointed out that the APC no longer matched her vision for the people of Ogun Central, which led to her decision to join the PDP.
