JAMB and WAEC Set N4,000 Fee for WASSCE Result Checks

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have announced a one-time fee of N4,000 for checking West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. This fee is for candidates who want to gain admission into Nigerian universities and colleges.

Both JAMB and WAEC explained that this new plan will help candidates avoid paying different fees for verification to various institutions during the admission process.

With this new plan, candidates whose admissions are handled by JAMB will confirm their WAEC results using a verification platform provided by JAMB. The verified results will then be sent to the school where the candidate wants to gain admission.

This update was shared in a combined statement from both bodies and distributed to PREMIUM TIMES.

"This partnership shows how JAMB and WAEC care about candidates. It will help reduce extra costs and make the admission process easier while keeping candidates’ academic records safe," the statement said.

Candidates can start the verification process from home or anywhere with internet access. The agencies urged prospective students to complete the verification just once, assuring them that the verified result will be sent to all relevant institutions.

According to the plan, candidates only need to verify their WASSCE results once through JAMB. After that, the verified results can be used by the schools for screening, admission processing, and other administrative needs.

"Candidates should only pay N4,000 one time for the verification of their WASSCE O’ Level results on the given platform and not to their preferred institutions," the statement added.

The schools that candidates apply to must not ask for additional verification fees from those whose results have already been checked through the JAMB platform. The statement made this clear.

"Tertiary institutions must use the verified results provided by JAMB for screening and processing admissions. Candidates will not have to pay for another verification," the statement said.

O’Level results are essential for getting into universities in Nigeria. Candidates usually rely on results from exams like WAEC’s WASSCE, the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination, and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) to show they have the required secondary school qualifications.

Typically, candidates need at least five credits in relevant subjects, including English and Mathematics, for their chosen field of study.

JAMB manages admissions into universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
