The Kaduna State Government has welcomed the arrest and court appearance of 24 suspects by the Kaduna State Police in connection with the mob killing of a woman at Maraban Jos. They see this as an important step towards achieving justice and upholding the law.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mr Ahmed Maiyaki, the Government praised the Kaduna State Police for their quick action, thorough investigation, and professionalism in bringing those involved in the incident to court.
Mr Maiyaki said that Governor Uba Sani’s administration strongly condemns mob violence, jungle justice, and any form of unlawful actions. He emphasized that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands or act as judge and jury.
"The Kaduna State Government welcomes the arrest and arraignment of the suspects linked to this unfortunate incident and commends the Police Command for its swift and professional response. The rule of law is essential in every democratic society, and no grievance, allegation or suspicion can justify taking another person’s life outside the law," the Commissioner said.
He pointed out that this tragic event reminds everyone of the dangers of lawlessness. Mr Maiyaki stressed the need for citizens to report complaints and allegations through the proper legal and security channels.
"Governor Uba Sani’s administration will not accept any form of mob action or jungle justice. We urge residents to report suspected criminal activities to security agencies and let the law handle it. Anyone caught taking the law into their hands will face the full force of the law, no matter their status or connection," he added.
The Commissioner expressed trust in the ongoing investigation by the Police. He mentioned that more than one hundred other suspects are still being investigated for their alleged roles in the incident.
He assured residents that the Government will keep supporting security agencies and the judiciary in their work to ensure accountability, maintain public order, and protect the rights of all citizens.
While offering condolences to the family of the deceased, Mr Maiyaki urged residents to stay peaceful, work with security agencies, and support efforts to maintain peace, justice, and security in Kaduna State.
"We must respect the sanctity of human life at all times. Kaduna State will continue to advocate for justice, peaceful living, and adherence to the law. We must all reject violence and vigilantism in every form," the statement said.
The Government reiterated its promise to ensure that everyone found guilty in this case will face justice through the right legal processes. They also encouraged the public to be law-abiding and watchful.
