The Kaduna State Police have brought 17 more suspects to court over the mob killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of the state.
This update comes as the police revealed that 33 other suspects have also been charged in connection with the case. Meanwhile, 30 people who were arrested earlier have been released after investigations showed they were not involved.
Mansir Hassan, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, shared this information in a statement on Friday. He said the 17 suspects faced arraignment in court on June 25, 2026, after preliminary investigations took place.
The statement said, "The Command wishes to update the public as follows: on June 25, 2026, seventeen (17) additional suspects were arraigned before a competent court in connection with the incident.
"Following the conclusion of preliminary investigations, thirty-three (33) other suspects have been charged with criminal conspiracy and unlawful assembly.
"Meanwhile, thirty (30) persons previously arrested have been found not to have participated in the crime and have been released unconditionally."
The police say investigations are still ongoing to find and arrest everyone involved in the mob action. They added that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted.
Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, emphasized the command’s dedication to achieving justice for the victim and maintaining peace in the state.
"The Commissioner of Police reassures the public that the Command remains committed to securing justice for the victim and maintaining peace and order across Kaduna State.
"He urges residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to continue providing the Police with credible information to support the investigation," Hassan stated.
The mob killing in Maraban Jos has drawn strong reactions from security agencies, civil society groups, and community leaders. They all condemned the act as a serious case of mob justice. The police confirmed that investigations are still underway.
