Katsina is set to back Tinubu in 2027, Radda

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, says the state will support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Radda mentioned the President’s long-standing political ties with the state’s leaders and his backing for its interests.

He said this on Monday while welcoming a group led by Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State. Yari is also the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council. He visited Katsina to ask for support for Tinubu’s re-election.

Yari visited Katsina and Daura emirates as part of the campaign effort but did not speak on the reason for his visit. Radda shared that the delegation had wrapped up talks with traditional rulers, explaining that the visits aimed to gather support for Tinubu before the 2027 presidential election.

"He was here to canvas for votes. He has gone around to visit the traditional institutions to explain to them the mission and vision of Mr President and his intention for this country," the governor said.

Radda believes these talks will lead to votes for the President. "We assured them of our efforts to ensure the victory of Mr President come 2027 election, Insha Allah," he stated.

The governor called the reception given to the delegation encouraging. He claimed that the people had reacted positively to the campaign for Tinubu’s re-election. "It was very interesting, and they have seen it themselves. Katsina has responded positively to supporting Mr President," Radda noted.

He added that the traditional rulers visited by the delegation had shown support for Tinubu, whom he described as a son of the soil. "They have shown their support, and they have pledged their loyalty to Mr President. They consider Mr President as the son of the soil," he said.

Radda explained why Tinubu has strong ties with Katsina. He said the President has backed the state’s political interests and has maintained close relationships with its key leaders.

According to the governor, Tinubu supported former President Muhammadu Buhari, who is from Katsina, and had a close political bond with the late President Umaru Yar’Adua. "He has been a political friend to our late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. So Katsina State is his home, and he has come to reassure us," Radda said.

Katsina is an important state in northern Nigeria and was Buhari’s home state. Buhari served as president from 2015 to 2023.

As political parties start preparing for the 2027 general elections, efforts to gain support from influential state leaders and traditional institutions are part of larger campaign strategies ahead of the polls.

The governor is hopeful that the political talks with traditional rulers and other stakeholders will boost support for Tinubu before the 2027 elections.
