Soldiers rescue 27 kidnap victims in Katsina after clash with terrorists

Troops from the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have saved 27 people who were kidnapped in Katsina State. This happened after a fierce gun battle with terrorists in Sabuwa Local Government Area.

PUNCH Metro found out that the victims included 15 men and 12 women. They were taken from Gamji community before the troops rushed to the scene following a distress call on October 16, 2026.

Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the task force, shared this news in a statement released on Tuesday.

Danja said the soldiers chased the terrorists along the Gangare-Kamba route. They used better firepower and forced the terrorists to leave their captives behind and escape.

"On contact, troops engaged with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon their victims and flee in disarray," he explained.

He noted that all 27 victims were found safe during the search of the area.

According to him, the rescued people were checked and then handed over to community leaders for them to reunite with their families.

In another operation on the same day, troops on patrol near Kurba village in Kankara Local Government Area saw terrorists riding three motorcycles.

Danja mentioned that the terrorists ran away when they saw the troops, leaving one motorcycle behind.

He said these operations show the ongoing strength and effectiveness of Operation Fansan Yamma in preventing terrorists from operating freely and protecting communities in the area.

"The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, commends troops for their bravery and quick action," the statement added.

The Theatre Commander also assured people in Katsina, Zamfara, and nearby states that the task force is dedicated to restoring peace and security.

These latest operations happen as the military continues its fight against terrorism, kidnapping, and other security problems affecting communities in Nigeria’s North-West region.
