The Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party campaign for the 2027 election in Kogi Central, Salami Etudaiye, has started mobilising supporters in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State. This is for the re-election of the senator representing the district, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The mobilisation kicked off on Thursday. PDP supporters, including youths, women, and loyal party members, held a solidarity road walk in Okehi to support Akpoti-Uduaghan and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This information came from a statement released in Abuja by the senator’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mike Idoko.
Kogi Central includes Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi, Okene, and Ogori-Magongo local government areas.
The supporters said the road walk aimed to strengthen the PDP’s grassroots mobilisation. They want to rally residents of the senatorial district behind Akpoti-Uduaghan's bid for a second term in the Senate.
During the road walk, Etudaiye, who is leading the PDP’s campaign in the senatorial district, said the mobilisation shows the party’s growing grassroots strength across Kogi Central. He pointed out that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s first tenure allowed the people to see her performance and representation style.
He added that the 2027 election is a chance to build on the gains made so far. “The people of Kogi Central have a choice to make, and that choice should be based on performance, capacity, courage, and the ability to represent the collective interest of the people. Senator Natasha has demonstrated these qualities in her first tenure,” Etudaiye said.
Etudaiye stated that returning the senator for a second term would help her deepen her legislative representation. It would also allow her to expand constituency-focused projects and push for programs to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of Kogi Central residents.
He urged voters in the district to think beyond political sentiments and focus on what he called the long-term interests of the people. “A second tenure is not just about returning someone to office. It is about giving the people a chance to build on representation, experience, and programs that can have a lasting impact. We are calling on our people across Kogi Central to unite behind Senator Natasha and all the PDP candidates,” he said.
He also appealed to residents of the five local government areas to maintain peaceful political engagement. He asked them to stay united as political activities ramp up for the 2027 general elections.
In the same vein, a PDP stalwart, Bashir Haroon, said the turnout showed the confidence the people have in Akpoti-Uduaghan and the party. Haroon mentioned that residents of Okehi used the procession to express their preference for the kind of representation they want in the National Assembly.
He said, “Okehi is standing firm with the PDP and with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. We have seen her commitment, we have seen her courage, and we have seen how she has continued to connect with the people.
“This support is not just about politics; it is about standing with a representative who understands the aspirations of her constituents.”
He called on communities across Kogi Central to remain united and ensure their support for the senator turns into votes in the 2027 election.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate, has been a notable political figure in the district since taking office. Her supporters highlight her legislative work, constituency outreach, and advocacy on issues affecting her people as reasons to support her for another term.
Her backers argue that her return for another term will let her build on her experience in the National Assembly. They believe it will help her strengthen her influence in pursuing projects and initiatives for the district.
The PDP campaign leadership stated that the proposed second-term agenda will focus on building existing interventions while expanding opportunities in infrastructure, education, youth development, women's empowerment, healthcare, skills acquisition, and economic development across the district.
