The Kogi State Police Command is searching for three suspects after a 30-year-old primary school teacher died from injuries she got when she was attacked for disciplining a student.

The teacher, Maryam Usman, was reportedly attacked on June 18 at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, located in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state.

SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat, the command’s spokesperson, shared this in a statement on Sunday. She said the case of culpable homicide was reported to the Olamaboro Divisional Police Headquarters on June 25.

The statement noted that early investigations showed that one Abdullahi Ishaka, along with two women, allegedly went to the school and assaulted the teacher because of the punishment given to a pupil.

“The victim sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital, Okpo, for further medical attention. She, however, passed away on June 25, 2026,” the statement said.

Afusat mentioned that detectives visited the scene and the deceased’s home after the incident was reported, and they completed the necessary documentation.

She also said plans were in place to take the body to the General Hospital in Ankpa for an autopsy.

The police spokesperson explained that the suspects ran away before officers arrived and that the police are still trying to catch them.

“Once they are arrested, the case will be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation,” she added.
