The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State started its campaign for the 2027 general elections on Sunday. They held a rally to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and to celebrate the party’s candidates from the recent primaries.

The event, organized by Kwara Progressives under the theme "Kwara Ndupe (Kwara is Grateful)," brought together party leaders, candidates, and supporters. They marched through the main streets of Ilorin, the state capital.

Organizers called the rally a celebration of the successful primaries and a way to mobilize for the upcoming elections in 2027.

While speaking to journalists at the rally, Abdulateef Alakawa, the State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, explained that the event was to thank God for the peaceful conduct of the primaries. This process produced candidates for various elective positions in the state through direct primary elections.

He said the primaries showed the wishes of party members and confirmed the loyalty of the Kwara APC to Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

"Power belongs to the people, and the people have spoken through the direct primary elections. We are grateful to God that the primaries were peaceful and successful, with our candidates emerging across the various positions," Alakawa stated.

Alakawa also addressed concerns about possible divisions within the party due to the primaries. He said the leadership has set up reconciliation measures to unite all stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.

"In every democratic process, there will be winners and those who may not emerge. As far as the APC is concerned, we have no losers. The party has already formed a reconciliation committee, and we are confident all issues will be resolved," he added.

Ahmad Muhammad, the APC candidate for Kwara North Senatorial District, praised the decision to zone the party’s governorship ticket to Kwara North. He called it a sign of fairness and inclusiveness. He thanked Tinubu, AbdulRazaq, and party members for believing in him.

"We appreciate the people of Kwara for giving Kwara North the opportunity to produce the next governor. Today’s rally shows the confidence and support the people have for Governor AbdulRazaq and the APC," he said.

Muhammad is sure that the APC will continue to hold power in the state during the next elections, claiming that the party still has strong support all over Kwara.

Olalekan Adewoye, the APC candidate for Kwara South Senatorial District, also expressed his gratitude to Tinubu, AbdulRazaq, and other party leaders for the chance to represent the party. He described the APC as a united family that is dedicated to its success.

"I am grateful to God and to the leadership of our party for the confidence in me. Without their support, this would not have been possible," Adewoye said.

Oba Magaji Abdulkadri, the Majority Leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly, shared his thoughts on the rally’s turnout. He said it showed the unity and growing strength of the APC in the state.

"We are very happy. As you can see, everyone is in a joyous mood," Abdulkadri mentioned.

He brushed aside worries about the opposition’s strength in the state. He believes that the APC will remain dominant in the 2027 elections.

"The future in Kwara State is APC from top to bottom, by the grace of Allah. The future is very bright. We are not afraid. As our leaders have said, there is practically no opposition in Kwara. We will continue to stay united and work together for the progress of the party and the state," he said.
