The Lagos State Government has caught 45 beggars, including adults and children, during separate operations in Oshodi, Agege, and CMS areas.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, shared this news in a statement on his X handle on Wednesday.

He mentioned that 22 beggars were arrested in Oshodi and Agege, which included adults and some teenagers.

Wahab also reported that 14 adults and nine children were caught at CMS during the same operation.

"Earlier today, in a separate enforcement operation, our team apprehended 22 beggars at Oshodi and Agege, comprising adults and a few teenagers.

Additionally, 14 adults and 9 children were apprehended at CMS," Wahab stated.

Wahab added that operations were still ongoing in other parts of Lagos, including Admiralty Way in Lekki and Addo Road in Ajah.

PUNCH Online reported on May 25 that the Lagos State Government had stepped up its environmental enforcement, leading to 10,634 arrests across the state in just one year.

According to Wahab, 5,715 people were arrested for crossing the road illegally, while 3,886 others were caught for street trading, environmental pollution, and cart pushing.

He also noted that 102 individuals were arrested for open defecation, and another 931 people were caught for waste management-related offences throughout the state.
