A Lagos hairstylist named Elvis has been shot dead by suspected robbers at Alesh Market in the Ajah area of Lagos State.
The incident happened on Saturday evening.
Reports say the robbers, whose exact number is not known, attacked people around the market and took their belongings.
Elvis tried to resist the robbers during the attack, which led to them shooting him.
A police source confirmed the attack to our correspondent on Tuesday. The source said Elvis was coming back from work when the robbers struck.
The police source stated, "A report was made that he was returning from his place of work when the robbers attacked him. He resisted and was shot in the head. Efforts are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and apprehend the perpetrators."
The source also mentioned that the robbers stole items from other passersby who were attacked during the incident.
A resident who knows about the incident shared worries about the security in the area. They said residents are increasingly afraid of robbery and harassment.
The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said, "There have been frequent cases of harassment and robbery in this area. People are being harassed and robbed of their belongings. People are worried."
They added, "Only if there can be increased police patrols in the area, especially around the market at night, will incidents reduce. The boys are gradually going out of control."
When asked about the incident on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed it.
She said, "Confirmed. No suspect yet. Investigation is ongoing."
