Troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) rescued a kidnap victim in Gura Topp, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. This rescue comes as worries grow over the rise in kidnappings in the area.

Reports show that at least eight people have been kidnapped in the last month along the Lo Pam Dyet, Gura Topp, and Rahol Kanang routes of the local government area.

Family members shared that millions of naira have been paid as ransom for some victims. Residents are dealing with both insecurity and the financial struggle of paying for the release of their loved ones.

The rescue was reported by Zagazola Makama, a security news outlet. They stated that troops from Sector 1 of OPEP acted on an abduction report in Gura Topp on 23 October.

The report mentioned that the suspected kidnappers ran away before the troops arrived. The victim was found safe and unharmed.

Efforts are still ongoing to find and arrest the suspects who escaped.

Security has been tightened in the affected communities. Security personnel are increasing their operations and enforcing rules on nighttime movement.

Residents have told reporters that motorcycles and tricycles are being stopped, and their drivers face checks starting from 7 p.m. in some parts of these areas. These actions are part of a larger effort to combat crime.

Even with more security around, community leaders are still worried about how often kidnappings happen. They fear for the safety of residents.

While the latest rescue brings some hope to the community, the ongoing issue of kidnappings has led to calls for better security and protection for areas along the Lo Pam Dyer, Gura Topp, and Rahol Kanang routes.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement about how many recent kidnappings or arrests are linked to these cases.
