Lagos Nabs Suspect for Damaging Road Barrier

The Lagos State Government has arrested a suspect for damaging a concrete barrier. This barrier is meant to stop people from crossing the expressway at the wrong spots. It is located at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, along Ikorodu Road.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, shared this news on X on Saturday. He said the arrest came after monitoring and enforcement operations took place the day before.

Wahab explained that the suspect was caught removing iron rods, cables, steel reinforcements, and other important parts of the concrete barrier. These parts help keep the barrier stable and effective.

“During monitoring and enforcement operations yesterday, our team apprehended a suspect at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, along the Ikorodu Road, for vandalising a concrete barrier installed to prevent pedestrians from crossing the expressway at unauthorised points,” he wrote.

Wahab added, “The suspect was found deliberately removing iron rods, cables, steel reinforcements, and other critical structural components that contribute to the stability and effectiveness of the concrete barrier.”

“The suspect has been arrested and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. This enforcement action shows the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of all road users and residents.”

This arrest is part of the Lagos State Government's ongoing efforts to protect public infrastructure from vandalism. Wahab stressed that anyone caught doing such acts will face legal action.

This news comes as concerns grow about people removing metal parts from public structures all over the state. Authorities say these actions put safety at risk and waste public money spent on infrastructure.
