Lagos starts fixing Shasha Road after public outcry

The Lagos State Government has started work to fix Shasha Road in Alimosho Local Government Area. This follows a report by PUNCH Metro about how bad the road had become.

On Thursday, our reporter saw workers from the Lagos State Public Works Corporation beginning repairs at the Jimoh end of the road.

A local resident, Kolapo Raheem, shared that the repair work began on Saturday.

He said he hopes this effort will help ease the troubles that drivers and residents have faced while using the damaged road.

"We are happy that work has finally started on the road. We have been complaining about its condition for months, and it is encouraging to see the government taking action. We hope they will do a good job and complete it on time," Raheem said.

Another resident, who asked to remain anonymous, welcomed the start of the repairs.

He mentioned that the bad state of the road made it hard for drivers, commuters, and business owners in the area to move around.

"We are relieved to see the workers on the road because the potholes have been a serious problem for us. Sometimes, motorists struggle to pass through, and this causes traffic. We hope the government will not abandon the project halfway," the resident said.

A motorist named Philip also shared his hopes that the repairs would reduce traffic jams on the road.

"We want the government to ensure that all the bad portions are repaired, not just the section where work has started. If other parts are left unattended, we will continue to experience the same difficulties," he said.

This development comes just days after PUNCH Metro reported complaints from drivers and residents about the worsening state of Shasha Road, which is filled with potholes in many areas.

During an earlier visit, our reporter noticed vehicles coming from Dopemu and Akowonjo slowing down a lot at Jimoh Bus Stop as drivers carefully avoided large potholes.

Further down the Moshalashi end, drivers faced even more potholes, forcing some to swerve into oncoming traffic to dodge the damaged sections.
