A trailer carrying cartons flipped over on Ogunnusi Road heading toward Berger in Lagos early Sunday. This happened because of a mechanical fault, leading to traffic diversions and quick action from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Broken-down trucks and mechanical issues often make Lagos roads very congested. This is especially true on major routes that connect the mainland to busy business areas.
Traffic authorities usually set up diversion routes and send recovery teams to clear the roads and help traffic flow smoothly again.
LASTMA shared details about the accident in a traffic update on Sunday. They said it happened close to Kosoko Junction. The authority pointed out that the accident was due to a problem with the vehicle’s suspension system.
The statement included, “An overnight incident was reported where a trailer loaded with cartons overturned due to a mechanical failure on Ogunnusi Road inward Berger, by Kosoko Junction. The suspension springs were damaged, causing the trailer body to rest on its tyres. Transloading of the cargo to a flatbed trailer is currently ongoing.”
To reduce traffic issues and keep the public safe, LASTMA quickly sent rescue workers to the site. They also implemented traffic management measures while recovery work continued.
“LASTMA Rescue Team and personnel from Zone 26 are on the ground managing the incident. The road has been cordoned off from VIS Turning, while contraflow is being implemented from VIS Turning to River Valley to ease traffic,” the statement from LASTMA explained.
The agency added that “transloading operations are still ongoing,” and they will share more updates as the recovery efforts progress.
