Man arrested for allegedly killing girlfriend during argument

The police in Rivers State have arrested a man named Richard Emmanuel for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Caroline Sunday. This happened after an argument in the Eneka area of the state.

Blessing Agabe, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest. She spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

Ms Agabe, who is an assistant superintendent of police, said the suspect is in his 30s. He allegedly attacked Caroline after accusing her of cheating.

“The victim sustained multiple injuries that resulted in her death. Preliminary investigations show that the couple has two children together,” she said.

The police spokesperson mentioned that the incident took place on Saturday. The suspect is now in police custody.

She added that Caroline was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later confirmed dead.

“Investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure justice for the victim,” she said.

Ms Agabe assured the community that the police would carry out a thorough investigation and follow the right procedures.

A witness who knows about the incident told NAN that the tragedy happened on Abraham Street in the Eneka Community, located in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers.

The witness claimed that Mr Emmanuel confronted Ms Sunday over allegations that she was seeing another man.

According to the witness, Caroline denied the accusation, which led to a heated argument between them.

The source further claimed that during the confrontation, the suspect assaulted Caroline, causing her to fall and hit her head against a sharp wall edge.

“Neighbours rushed to the house after hearing Caroline’s cries for help.

“On arrival, they found her lying in a pool of blood. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful,” the source said.

The witness also said that neighbours held back the suspect and called officers from the Eneka Police Division.

The source added that the police later arrested Mr Emmanuel and took Caroline's body from the scene.
