The Presidency said on Wednesday that Adeniyi Adeyemi is in court for pretending to be the Director-General of a non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). He is facing trial at the Federal High Court.

Bayo Onanuga, the president's spokesperson, said the police charged Mr Adeyemi along with two other people. They face an eight-count charge at the Federal High Court.

Mr Onanuga noted that the case was filed on 27 November 2025. The hearing is set for 27 July.

Three weeks ago, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, issued a statement about Mr Adeyemi. He made it clear that the agency does not exist under the current government and that no appointment was made by the administration.

“The unsuspecting public is hereby advised to note that such an office does not exist under this administration and no appointment has been made in that regard,” he said.

But just a few days after that statement, new evidence showed that Mr Adeyemi’s agency was listed in Nigeria’s 2026 budget.
