Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has removed six commissioners from their positions. This is part of a small cabinet change to boost his administration.
The Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Magaji, shared this news while speaking to journalists after the State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday in Lafia.
Magaji said the affected commissioners were responsible for the Ministries of Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, and Security and Sundry Matters.
He explained that the commissioners were asked to leave to allow for new ideas and to improve governance in the last months of the administration.
He said this decision does not mean the commissioners did poorly. The council recognized their commitment, efficiency, and hard work during their time in office.
“The government appreciates their contributions. The adjustment is intended to refresh the system, bring new energy into the administration, and make sure that the mandate given to Gov. Abdullahi Sule is fully delivered within the remaining period of this administration,” he stated.
Magaji added that the former commissioners will still be part of the government and might be given other roles in the future.
He also mentioned that the names of the new appointees will be announced through the right channels.
The SSG informed that the council spent time discussing ways to boost the state’s revenue by focusing on investments in the lithium sector.
He said this discussion came after President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, inaugurated one of Africa’s largest lithium processing plants in Nasarawa.
Magaji noted that the government is working on plans to maximize the economic advantages of the growing lithium processing industry in the state. He added that more details about the decisions made would be shared at the right time.
