Natasha Osawaru, the wife of Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, known as 2Baba, has been named the minority leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, was announced as the minority leader during a plenary session on Monday. This followed a reshuffle of the Assemblyâs leadership.
She took the position under the National Democratic Congress after moving from the Peoples Democratic Party in May 2026.
A statement from Osawaruâs Media and Strategic Communications Directorate was shared on her Facebook page on Monday. It said, "In a landmark development during Monday morningâs plenary, the Edo State House of Assembly announced a comprehensive reshuffle of its principal leadership, officially naming the distinguished representative of Egor Constituency, Hon. Natasha Osawaru, as the new Minority Leader of the House."
The statement continued, "The plenary session, held this morning at the Assembly Complex in Benin City, saw lawmakers reorganise key leadership seats following strategic alignments across party caucuses. Hon. Osawaruâs elevation under the platform of the National Democratic Congress reflects not only her formidable standing within the legislative chamber, but also the deep confidence reposed in her by colleagues and constituents alike."
Osawaru had previously served as Deputy Majority Leader. During her time in the Assembly, she focused on grassroots development, parliamentary debate, and empowering youth and women.
After the plenary, Osawaru thanked the Assembly leadership, her colleagues, and the people of Egor. She said, "This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust. Our democracy thrives on rigorous debate, accountability, and the courage to advocate for the ordinary citizen without compromise."
She added, "As Minority Leader, my commitment to the development of Edo State, the progress of our great party, the NDC, and the prosperity of the good people of Egor remains absolute."
Osawaruâs new role puts her in a significant opposition leadership position in the Edo State House of Assembly.
