The Nigerian Navy has arrested a 44-year-old man suspected of drug trafficking. They caught him during a security operation in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. The Naval Outpost in Onitsha has now handed over the suspect to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at their Onitsha Area Command.
The suspect's name is Chukwu Obas. The Commanding Officer of Naval Outpost, Onitsha, Commander Kabir Yusuf, passed him to the NDLEA during a ceremony at the naval outpost's administrative block.
A report from the Navy was shared with journalists on Thursday. It states that Obas, who comes from Orsumoghu Community in Ihiala Local Government Area, was arrested on July 15, 2026. This happened during a routine stop-and-search at Uga Junction in Ogbaru LG.
The report said, “A 44-year-old suspected drug trafficker has been apprehended during a security operation in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. He was subsequently handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Onitsha Area Command.
“Items recovered from the suspect include 30 packs of expired Mamagra Viagra 100ml, 100 packs of FIKA Viagra 100ml, herbal roots, and a one-litre plastic bottle containing a liquid substance suspected to be an illicit drug.
“Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that the suspect purchased the drugs at Ogbo-Ogwu Market, Onitsha.”
The Navy also claimed that the suspect was heading to Orsumoghu Community to sell the drugs. Security agencies say this area has members of IPOB/ESN and other armed criminals.
Investigators believe the suspect might have important information. They think he could help find out where the suspected illegal drugs came from and identify others involved in the drug distribution network.
